DBtoWEB for Windows 95/98/NT4 (x86 Version) Version 1.3 Release Notes Written by Matthew Collinge, Copyright 1998 http://www.endpoint.freeserve.co.uk/ In This File ============ - Description - DBtoWEB License - Purchasing a license - New in Version 1.3 - Installation - Removing DBtoWEB - Technical Support - For More Information - Revision History - Known Bugs Description =========== DBtoWEB is a utility to take information stored in a database and generate a set of web pages from that data.  The pages are based on templates which contain special tags to tell DBtoWEB what database fields to place where.   These templates can contain repeating sections which query the database for more information giving you more flexibility in the way you present your data. In other words at the push of a button you can generate hundreds of web pages based on a single template and a database! New in Version 1.3 ================== This is a minor release of DBtoWEB. Since the last major release (1.1) there have been the following changes: - New template processing engine - Supports nested repeating sections - Additional tags + IF, ELSE, END IF tags for conditional output + REPEAT ELSE tag for more flexible repeating sections + TODAYS DATE tag to include page generation dates - Local copy of documentation - Many old bugs fixed Installation ============ Support libraries: ------------------ Ensure you have the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime library and the Microsoft Data Access SDK 2.0 Typical Install for x86 installed on your PC, otherwise DBtoWEB may not function correctly. See the DBtoWEB web pages for full details. DBtoWEB installation: --------------------- Run SETUP.EXE to start the installation process. Removing DBtoWEB ================ To remove DBtoWEB use the 'Add/Remove Programs' applet in control panel. Technical Support ================= If you have any problems please check the web site documentation. If that doesn't help contact us by email or use the online comments form. For More Information ==================== See the web site at http://www.endpoint.freeserve.co.uk/ which contains: - Documentation - Examples with associated files to download - FAQ Revision History ================ 0.9 - First general release 1.0 - Second release with: - New user interface - Load/Save project added - ODBC support (see known bugs) - Command line support (generates pages automatically) - No changes to the page generator code has been made... there are no new tags in this release (several are planned for the next version) 1.1 - ODBC Fixes Known Bugs ========== - There is a problem connecting to an MS Acccess database via ODBC (it will cause DBtoWEB to lock up). This is NOT a problem with this application but a known fault with ODBC. To get around this problem simply use the MS Acccess database file instead of ODBC DSN. - Some ODBC drivers lock up DBtoWEB. One example is the Microsoft FoxPro driver which comes with ODBC 3.51. To get round this problem use the drivers which come with the Microsoft Data Access SDK 2.0 Typical Installation.
